my wannabe Portillo travelling partner has remarked several times that one of the things he loves about train travel is the slower pace. He reckons people don’t rush as much as they do in airports, and consequently everyone is much nicer to everyone else. There’s certainly something to his theory, but one of the things I like most is the extended opportunity for people watching... . . . . . . . . .
it appears watching all those Michael Portillo train shows has had an effect... It was a relaxed start to the day with coffee and toast in the Central Station restaurant, newspaper reading and guessing where and what other travellers were up to.
We then had a little ‘great railway journey’ of our own and caught the train from Sydney to Bowral which took 2 hours and cost the princely sum of $2.60.
